How It Works

At Instyle, our goal is to educate all Australians on How Solar Works and the basics that you need to know before installing a Solar Power System. This section provides a top-level summary of the general Solar Power System inclusions and processes to help aid your research about Going Solar.
Solar Energy Production

HOW IT WORKS

Solar Energy production occurs when the light from the sun is absorbed by the cells within a Solar panel and is then converted to an electrical current. The individual elements which make up a solar system each have a unique job in the process of energy production and electrical current conversion.

Once the sunlight energy is converted into AC or Alternating Current, it can then be utilised in a home or commercial establishment in the same way that electrical power is traditionally supplied from the grid.

Solar Panels

HOW IT WORKS

Solar panels are made up of photovoltaic modules, or cells. Photovoltaic [PV] cells convert the suns light into electricity. The most common material which makes up the solar panel cells is silicon. The silicon is purified and subject to a special chemical treatment before it is converted to solar cells and assembled into solar panels.

This special purification process gives silicon the ability to convert light into an electrical current. Most panels use either 60 or 72 cells that are wired together. A single solar panel cannot produce enough electricity for an entire home, but many of them are installed together to increase power production for common consumption habits.

Inverters

HOW IT WORKS

A Solar Power Inverter has a simple, yet very important job in the process of Solar Power Production. A Solar Inverter receives an electrical current in the form of DC [or Direct Current], via the wiring & conduit which is fed directly from the solar panel system.

The Solar Power Inverter then converts that energy source from DC to AC – or Alternating Current. From there, the AC is fed into the dwellings switchboard for consumption, via the existing electrical circuits.

Consumption

HOW IT WORKS

Power consumption habits from dwelling to dwelling can vary substantially due to the individual needs and number of people residing in each household. By installing a solar analytics or monitoring system, you can be armed with the info to make changes to save you hundreds of dollars a year.

The largest portion of household power consumption generally comes from our essential, but power-hungry appliances.
In addition, the next largest portion of energy consumption on most electricity bills comes from standby power. This refers to any power outlet which as a plug turned on, powering a device or appliance, that is not currently in use. Making some small changes to consumption habits on a daily basis can drastically reduce your quarterly bills by hundreds – from 60-80% overall.

Rebates & Payments

HOW IT WORKS

In each state, there are different price points for both Solar System & Battery Rebates. Each state has its own STC scheme which will detail the credits that can be obtained from the relevant government bodies when installing a solar system – with and without the inclusion of a battery.
The fees associated with a new Solar System can be reasonable so it’s a standard practice within Australia for these rebates to be utilised in the purchasing process.

Financing a Solar System with Instyle Solar can be done in multiple ways. Cash payments, personal credit applications or taking advantage of Instye Solars exclusive creditor partnership rates and finance options – free of compound interest, are usually the top few methods. The quick & easy application process for Instyle Solar’s preferred finance providers can be completed within minutes at the time of sale.
